About Our Internship Program:

Here at Amway, our interns develop through real world experience and are assigned meaningful projects that challenge and allow for personal growth. All Interns receive project support and on-going performance feedback from a person advisor and hiring manager. Amway hosts over 80+ interns each summer and offers programming events designed to assist navigating Amway culture, making the most of a summer internship, and building a successful career. The program provides exposure to a breadth of career fields and provides unique opportunities to learn business acumen, work cross-functionally and showcase their skillsets directly to hiring managers and executives.

 

Internship Eligibility:

This job posting is for our summer 2020 Internship Program (May – August); qualified candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and one semester or more left of school to complete at the beginning of their internship. Candidates who have graduated are not eligible to intern.

GLOBAL PROCUREMENT INTERNSHIP

 

What is special about this team: Global Procurement is a function within the Amway Supply Chain that is responsible for matching external capabilities with internal needs. Global Procurement is divided into three categories: Direct (raw materials/finished goods), Indirect (services), and Analytics (data insights). Amway Global Procurement seeks to drive business solutions that enable our Amway Business Owner (ABO) success. We do this by leveraging our training program, Global Procurement Mastery, which you will be able to take part in during your summer internship. Procurement seeks to empower each individual to bring their unique competencies and skillsets to the table in a work hard, play hard culture. During your internship, you will be assigned a mentor that will help guide you in all things Amway and Procurement, and one or more Project Owners who will help guide you through your specific project.

 

How would an intern contribute to the team’s success: Your role in Procurement plays a pivotal role to the success of our department as we provide our interns with real, meaningful projects that would normally be completed by one or more full time employees. During your internship, you will be able to lead two projects as well as earn your Yellow Belt Lean Six Sigma certification through driving a cross-functional process improvement in partnership with other interns. The recommendations that our interns provide are implemented by many cross-functional areas and give the opportunity to gain experiences and see meaningful change.  

 

An example of a typical project is: Optimizing spend and providing cost reductions via conducting a strategic bid, development a Supplier Segmentation process and rolling out globally, conducting a cost analysis/breakdown for a category of spend and providing cost improvement recommendations, negotiating spend with one or more suppliers, implementing or expanding a stocking program with current key suppliers, leveraging analytics to provide business insights and recommendations

 

What skills and background will be important to be successful in this internship?

GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAIN PLANNING

 

What is special about this team: The Global Supply Chain Planning team works collaboratively to schedule and distribute product globally, with our Ada based facilities, and global supply chain teams.  Global Supply Chain Planning is divided into three categories: Nutrition planning, non-Nutrition planning (Beauty, Personal Care, Home care and Durables), Planning analytics. This team thrives on delivering product on time, while minimizing shipping and inventory costs, and delivering cost savings to the supply chain.  To ensure a successful internship in Planning at Amway, we will provide an in-depth onboarding training in planning knowledge and introducing you to all the cross functional partners that planning work with, such as forecasting, manufacturing, quality, etc. During your internship, you will be assigned a mentor that will help guide you in all things Amway and Planning, and one project owner who will help guide you through your specific project.

 

How would an intern contribute to the team’s success: Your role in Planning plays a pivotal role to the success of our department as we provide our interns with real, meaningful projects that would normally be completed by one or more full time employees. During your internship, you will be able to lead two projects as well as earn your Yellow Belt Lean Six Sigma certification through driving a cross-functional process improvement in partnership with other interns. The recommendations that our interns provide are implemented by many cross-functional areas and give the opportunity to gain experiences and see meaningful change.  

 

An example of a typical project is: Streamline artwork change communication process with internal partners and suppliers, identify gaps and opportunities to streamline foil production to support sample program, JDA allocation Calendar modeling for Non-Shop Markets globally.

GLOBAL OMNICHANNEL LOGISTICS & ANALYTICS

 

What is special about this team: Amway’s Global Omnichannel Logistics team is responsible for the end-to-end flow of Amway products from the manufacturer to our Amway Business Owners (ABOs) and customers. This flow of products, from inbound raw materials to outbound finished goods home deliveries, can be further broken down into the functional areas of Transportation, Distribution, Global Trade, and Reverse Logistics.   Being a Global division, we support operations all over the world; inbound transportation to Amway owned manufacturing sites occurs in the United States, China, India, and Vietnam.  Final mile delivery operations occur in over 80 countries via home delivery carriers to residential homes, to centralized pick-up points, via distribution centers and from shops.  Our global mission is to provide our ABOs & customers a competitive ecommerce experience while we drive efficiencies and cost savings in Amway’s delivery operations.  We aim to achieve our mission through site and market specific continuous improvement activities and through centralized analytics and insights identified by our global analytics team. 

 

How would an intern contribute to the team’s success: An intern in this role will gain an understanding of Distribution Operations and Supply Chain on a global scale. Working closely with Distribution on site in Ada, will allow ground level leadership and experience, which will be leveraged to problem solve as they train in analytical tools and work toward change management based on project findings. From an Analytics perspective, they will gain experience in utilizing tools such as Alteryx, Tableau, and OBIEE to work toward these improvements from project findings.

 

An example of a typical project is:  Analyzing current processes, procedures, and data to identify opportunities to improve the overall operation.  What can we do to reduce overages, shortages, and damages?  How can we make sure to meet customer delivery expectations? Our goal is to improve the customer’s experience and reduce costs associated with these processes. This will involve using the same tools as the IAE team while performing the analysis involved in the project’s success.

 

What skills and background will be important to be successful in this internship?

 

Desired Skills: Unrelenting curiosity and desire to learn. Leadership ability or desire to lead people. Experience in team environment and desire to work collaboratively toward a goal. Classes or interest in Supply Chain, Operations Management, and/or Analytics.

 

Desired Degree: Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
