Background of Functional Area The system you will work on is called “Fusion”.  Fusion is a global application deployed in the cloud using microservice architecture on AWS including Cloudfront, API Gateway, Lambda, Kinesis, and MySQL. The Fusion product team designs, builds, and supports a suite of applications supporting Amway’s pricing and portfolio strategies.  This team works closely with our business partners in Marketing, Sales, and Finance.  The team operates in tight collaboration and integration with a global audience of analysts, product owners, and subject matter experts. 


Project Description As part of the Fusion Product team, you will create Financial “goal seek” capabilities for Amway’s pricing and portfolio system.  The functionality you create will relate to Financial calculations for product and portfolio profitability and benchmarking.  As a full-stack developer, you will have opportunity to work on all aspects of the software development lifecycle.  This include front-end User Experience/Interface, back-end elements like Lambda, MySql, Kinesis, etc.  You will also move your changes to the production system using the CI/CD framework.


Candidate Development Understanding how a full-stack developer participates with multiple stakeholders across the global Amway organization, understanding and experience in headless (serverless) application design and microservice architecture on Amazon Web Services (AWS) including Cloudfront, API Gateway, Lambda, Kinesis, and MySQL, experience as a “Test First” Test Driven Developer, experience participating on agile project teams and familiarity with the Atlassian stack (e.g. Jira, Confluence, etc.),  and experience with CI/CD pipelines on cloud-based architecture using Code Pipeline.


Desired Degree The student should be working towards a Computer Science or other technically related Software Development degree.


Desired Skills  Strong desire to learn new technologies, approaches, and problem solve new business problems, strong organizational skills and follow through., effective written and verbal communication skills, strong sense of ownership for deliverables and a sense of urgency to promptly resolve issues, understanding or interest in Test Driven Development in a Test First mindset, understanding or interest in headless application design and microservice architecture on AWS including Cloudfront, API Gateway, Lambda, Kinesis, and MySQL., experience in object-oriented languages such as Java, C++, C#, etc., experience in scripting languages such as Python, Node.js, etc, experience developing Financial related “goal seek” calculations is a plus, and experience with Linux and Bash a plus.


*This is a summer 2019 internship; qualified candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and one semester or more left of school to complete at the beginning of their internship. Candidates who have graduated are not eligible to intern. This position is located in Ada, Michigan.
