This person should have experience in the design and interpretation of basic and clinical research, and its translation to products, claims and education that enable health over a person’s health span.

The Nutrition Science and Clinical Investigation team is a highly skilled team of scientists with PhDs in multiple disciplines, working across the nutrition portfolio to ensure the development of effective nutritional products (Nutraceutical/dietary supplement) with appropriate substantiation and reason to believe in the efficacy of the product. This team sits at the interface among different INS (Innovation and Science) functions and serves to help design and execute research and synthesize information from the fuzzy front end through to commercialization. This team serves as an important pool of “expert speakers” interacting at the front lines with ABOs to help them understand the design and intended use of products in the context of an overall health & wellness routine.

This role is critical to the success of our transformation of Amway Business Owners (ABOs) as the center of Health & Wellness communities. Health & Wellness success is predicated upon an understanding of human biology and how that is impacted by our genes and our environment. The incumbent will be responsible for synthesizing the evidence in a scientifically accurate AND end-user relevant way to help ABOs understand the advantage of Amway in being able to bring together products that impact our wellness from both inside and outside our bodies AND bring credible information to their communities. To do this, the applicant will need to have a depth of understanding of human biology, a talent for making complex scientific information relatable, have standing in the external scientific community, and an ability to navigate the complex business environment of Amway to bring this work to life. Experience in translation of benchtop science into relevant real world outcomes will be critical to the success of the incumbent’s success. The incumbent will also develop and lead a global community of practice around Nutrition Science and Clinical investigation to improve strategic focus for new research, improve conversion of translational research (internal and via partnership) to commercial outcomes, improve science support and substantiation in GTM, and support global investigator input into portfolio strategy and design.
Required qualifications:
- PhD in Nutrition Science, Biomedical Science or relevant discipline, MD or ND. Master’s degree with additional experience considered.
- 5-10 years of relevant experience in the development, formulation and clinical validation of nutraceutical products
- Experience with the design and execution and data analysis of various clinical trial methodologies (including emerging methods of real-world evidence and big data collection) preferred
- Track record of scientific publication in peer-reviewed journals and/or grant funding from government or private funding agencies
Skills to be successful in the role:
- Managing budgets, building timelines, and basic business finance
- Experience communicating science to the lay public a plus
- Familiarity with regulatory bodies globally, and regulations pertaining to dietary supplements in particular as well as claims substantiation
- Managing and prioritizing multiple and sometimes competing projects
- Ability to organize and influence a global community of experts in clinical investigation
- Ability to form and maintain external and external expert networks
- A learning/growth mindset and ability to operate within an agile framework
- Fluency with digital platforms for data acquisition, analysis and presentation, communication and business software (e.g. MS Office)
