We are looking to hire a Trademark & Copyright Attorney (Corporate Counsel I) to join our Legal team.

 

What’s special about this job:

 

The Trademark & Copyright Attorney (Corporate Counsel I) is responsible for all aspects of managing global trademark brands and providing legal advice and counseling to internal business clients both domestically and in foreign markets, regarding the use of trademark and copyright assets.

 

How you would contribute to the role:

 

Conduct legal work under minimal supervision and serve as direct client contact for domestic and international affiliate clients. Provide legal services regarding all aspects of trademark and copyright matters including trademark clearance, registration, and prosecution of trademark applications as well as strategic enforcement of trademark rights though oppositions, cancelation, and infringement proceedings. Oversee paralegals and the administrative matters associated with trademark docketing.

Work with sales & marketing in the promotion of the Amway business on various social media platforms and provide legal guidance to in-house content creation teams on copyright and publicity rights. Provide IP advice on advertising projects, including audio/visual, social media, labeling and print media, as well as enforcement of IP rights on social media platforms. When necessary, assist in the acquisition or licensing of music and other copyrighted material.

 

Required qualifications:

 

· Juris Doctorate, and admitted to practice in at least one State Bar

· At least 4 years legal experience with a large law firm and/or in-house practicing in trademark area

 

Skills to be successful in the role:

 

· Ability to effectively manage a global trademark portfolio and provide legal advice and counseling regarding basic copyright matters.

· Review and analysis of global trademark searches for clearance of use on products and counsel internal clients regarding associated risks in a pragmatic manner

· Handle trademark disputes, including preparing cease and desist letters and other correspondence relating to IP infringements, manage oppositions and cancellations and negotiate resolutions of disputes

· Manage foreign counsel in the enforcement of corporate brands to eliminate infringing uses as well as assist in anti-counterfeit efforts

· Draft and review trademark and copyright licensing and other agreements, as needed, to support business operations

· Develop relationships with sales and marketing teams, and educate them on trademark and copyright basics

· Excellent business judgment with the ability to make decisions and give advice that demonstrates and understanding of the law as well as the overall business objectives and the risk/reward of each situation

· Communicate on complex legal issues in concise and comprehensible language and provide practical, effective, and creative recommendations to the Legal Division and Enterprise management

· Assist in the development and implementation of enforcement programs for Amway’s trademark and copyright assets on social media platforms

· Be able to evaluate and resolve potential trademark infringement and registrability issues associated with proposed products and processes, both offensively and defensively

· Be able to strategically select and manage outside counsel in multiple countries, keeping in mind budgetary objectives

· Demonstrated leadership and ability to positively influence others

· Experience in communicating and working with individuals and directing counsel in a global environment, including contact with individuals from other cultures where English is not the primary language
