Job Title: Enterprise Integration Software Engineer
Department / Division: Technology
Salary Range: $103,044 - $113,890 + Bonus
Location: Ada, MI (Hybrid: In Office M-TH, WFH Fri)
What We’re Looking For:
We are looking for a high-potential engineer to launch their career at the very center of our enterprise technology ecosystem. We are driven by belief and passionate about engineering solutions that support the future state of our global ecosystem. Our goal is Invisible Integration: a hyper-scalable backbone that removes technical friction across 100+ countries we serve worldwide. This requires building execution mastery across modern integration patterns through bridging legacy COTS applications to future-ready stacks using Apache Kafka for event streaming, Apigee X for API management, Apache Camel for route orchestration, and Apache Airflow for Managed File Transfer (MFT). You will split your focus between hands-on execution, observability, and infrastructure automation, ensuring our systems run seamlessly without operational friction.
What You’ll Do:
As an Enterprise Integration Engineer, you occupy one of the most strategically significant positions in the entire technology organization. While most engineering roles isolate developers within a single application or product silo, Enterprise Integration sits at the center of the enterprise nervous system.
In this role, you get the unique opportunity to look across the entire global technology landscape through discovering, interacting with, and orchestrating the vast ecosystem of applications that power Amway across 100+ global markets. You will gain a high-caliber, end-to-end perspective on how data flows across e-commerce, supply chain, finance, and digital platforms.
- Ecosystem Mastery: You will understand how modern enterprise systems interlock, preparing you for future leadership roles as a Principal Architect, Lead Integration Engineer, or Enterprise Platform Owner.
- Executive Visibility: Because integration is the engine that transforms IT from a cost center into an agile value-driver, your work directly impacts business continuity, market expansion, and digital innovation.
- Succession Pipeline: Designed specifically for an Intern Conversion, this position is built to fast-track high-potential talent into core architecture roles through active mentorship, high-stakes exposure, and accelerated ownership.
What to expect. Your first 90 days:
- Day 30: Familiarize yourself with our multi-cloud environment (GCP, AWS), container runtimes (Cloud Run, EKS), basic YAML DSL structures in Apache Camel, and developer self-service portals, while achieving full operational familiarity with Managed File Transfer (MFT) workflows. Audit initial Confluent Kafka topic provisioning and Apigee X setups, while establishing hands-on proficiency across our enterprise observability, log storage, and tracing solutions—including Prometheus, Grafana, Google Cloud Observability, and Cloud Storage.
- Day 60: Be actively involved in developing a modern Apache Camel integration solution while gaining hands-on execution experience (the "I do" phase) across all major integration platforms and developer self-service portals which include Confluent/Apache Kafka, Apigee X, Apache Camel, Airflow (MFT), GCP, and various Cloud Run implementations.
- Day 90: Elevate to the "I teach" level of mastery across developer self-service portals while putting your engineering skills to work in production code, writing robust Java/Spring Boot micro-services, building custom Camel routes, and engineering Python utility automation scripts. You will leverage a solid engineering fluency in Apache Camel, Apigee X, and Kafka to transform complex distributed system requirements into clean, maintainable software that actively drives a Zero-Support architecture free of Single Points of Failure (SPOFs).
Skills to be successful in the role:
- Full-Cycle Execution & Ecosystem Perspective: You naturally identify manual friction and build automated solutions using CI/CD pipelines, configuration management, and modern streaming patterns. You assist in writing unit tests, performing integration testing, and supporting automated CI/CD pipelines to deliver high-quality, reliable deployments.
- T-Shaped Growth & Zero-Support Mentality: You rapidly transition from executing tasks under guidance to leading deep-dives, converting manual friction into automated self-service, and turning "black box" systems into clear, documented architectures. You participate actively in code reviews and learn software development best practices in a highly collaborative environment.
- Modernization & Technical Versatility: You bring technical curiosity to bridge legacy COTS applications with future-ready platforms like Kafka, Apigee X, Airflow, and Camel. You stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in enterprise integration, APIs, and cloud-native development.
- AI-Augmented Productivity: You possess the proficiency to use AI tools as a standard daily resource to accelerate development, improve code quality, and automate routine tasks.
- Authentic Collaboration: You communicate with radical candor and empathy by tackling friction head-on rather than talking around it. You partner closely with your peers to translate complex requirements into clean, maintainable, production-ready code.
Required qualifications:
- Education & Background: A Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent professional/internship experience.
- Technical Foundations: Foundational knowledge in Java, Spring Boot, Python, or similar languages, alongside familiarity with API concepts (REST/SOAP), JSON, and YAML DSL structures. Ability to assist in the design, development, and testing of APIs and integration services, as well as write, troubleshoot, and debug backend services and utility scripts using JavaScript and Python.
- Integration Exposure: Hands-on exposure to or a strong desire to master core enterprise integration technologies. This includes contributing to integration workflows using Apache Camel, automating workflows, supporting event-driven processing and streaming use cases using Confluent Kafka, and participating in API development, deployment, and management using Apigee X.
- Cloud & Observability: Exposure to cloud environments (GCP or AWS), container platforms (Cloud Run, EKS, Docker), and monitoring/logging platforms like Grafana.
- Integrity & Growth Mindset: You live out your values every day, taking ownership of your growth and moving eagerly from passive observation to active engineering. You demonstrate a willingness to learn, take initiative, and contribute actively to team knowledge-sharing.
What’s special about this team:
This team highly favors the Wingman Protocol. We operate in a culture grounded in collective mastery over "hero culture". You will not be an isolated task executor sitting in a queue; instead, you will act as a T-shaped, anti-fragile systems engineer who builds shared-brain architectures and eliminates single points of failure (SPOFs). We believe our success is connected and we serve the needs of our global partners because we know we are better together. We put the communities we serve first, building trust and collaboration through a You First, Me Second mindset. Our primary metric is team anti-fragility: the ability to operate at 100% efficiency even when any one member is offline. We prioritize shared accountability, by holding ourselves and each other to high standards while taking responsibility for our mistakes.
